Clubs and Organizations

New Club/Organization Application Form 

Northwestern offers a wide variety of club and organizational opportunities in which students can participate. Listed below are short summaries of several of these organizations and clubs to help students channel their energies into service and interest projects. Interested students are encouraged to contact the advisors of these programs. Students interested in starting a new club should speak with a Trojan Council Representative. 

Academic & Competitive Teams 

ACADEMIC CHALLENGE (Quiz Bowl) - A competitive quiz team where students test their knowledge in trivia across a wide range of subjects. The team represents the school in matches against other schools, showcasing quick thinking and academic skill. Sponsor - Mr. Dawson 

CHESS CLUB – A club for students who want to learn, practice, and enjoy chess in a relaxed setting. The focus is on building skills and having fun, not competition. Sponsor - Mrs. Silva 

FORENSIC SCIENCE CLUB - Members engage in activities that introduce them to the use of science to solve crimes. Sponsor - Dr. Venables 

MODEL UNITED NATIONS - This group focuses on world issues, debate, and public speaking. Students participate in extensive competition after much preparation. Members are required to attend meetings regularly and must attend one conference per year. Sponsor - Mrs. Simpson 

TROJAN FINANCE - Members learn about all aspects of personal finance, including budgeting, saving, investing, taxes, insurance, credit scores, and college funding. Sponsor - Dr. Venables 

Honor Societies & Leadership 

BETA CLUB - Membership in this academic achievement organization is via academic eligibility. Northwestern Beta Club Sponsor - Ms. Siddons 

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY - Members must be juniors and seniors who maintain a 4.0 average and have no office referrals. Sponsor - Mr. Sanford 

THESPIAN SOCIETY - This honor society for theatre students serves to enhance the Theatre Department on campus by producing main stage productions each year. It is affiliated with the International Thespian Society promoting excellence in theatre among high school students. Sponsor - Mrs. Altman 

OLYMPIANS - This organization is composed of senior students. Selection for participation is based upon recommendation. Sponsors - Mrs. Chavis & Mrs. Estes 

TROJAN COUNCIL - Student government. This council promotes all activities at Northwestern. Representatives are elected via school-wide elections. Sponsors - Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. King, Ms. Lehman, Mrs. Silva 

STUDENT LIGHTHOUSE TEAM - The Student Lighthouse Team is an application-based leadership group focused on encouraging the learning and practice of the 7 Habits throughout the school. Members promote leadership among all students, recommend habits-based solutions to school concerns, and actively participate in service projects. Team members are expected to maintain strong grades, demonstrate good judgment, attend monthly meetings, and uphold school expectations for the entire year. Sponsor - Dr. Kirkland

Arts, Media & Publications 

AENEID STAFF - This group produces the school's yearbook. Sponsor - Mrs. Silva

ORACLE WRITING CENTER - The Oracle offers free writing tutoring to all students at Northwestern. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, talk to Mrs. Dawes or your guidance counselor. Sponsor - Mrs. Dawes 

ART CLUB - This is the art club. Activities include art shows and exhibits. Sponsors - Ms. Queen, Mr. Lykens, & Mrs. Sandy 

TROJAN WAY TV - Broadcast crew that produces a monthly news program that showcases all things Northwestern. Sponsor - Dr. Venables 

VISIONS -This staff works to compose the literary magazine made up of original student compositions, poems, short stories, etc. Interested students should consider enrolling in creative writing. Sponsor - Mrs. Morton 

NHS DANCE COMPANY- Northwestern’s competitive dance group that competes in regional and state competitions. Sponsor- Ms. Bainey 

Service & Community 

BIG BROTHER/BIG SISTER - A group of seniors who act as a big brother/sister to help freshmen students transition into high school life. They check on them with their academics, encourage them to get involved in different clubs and give them moral support when needed. The organization meets at least once a month with a guest speaker, team building activities, and/or campus projects. Sponsor - Ms. Byers 

JUNIOR CIVITANS - This service organization is open to all interested students. Service-related projects are conducted. Sponsor - Ms. Lehman 

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL - This council meets once a month to discuss issues involving Northwestern. Sponsor - Mrs. Phillips 

LATINOS IN ACTION - The club is dedicated to supporting newcomer students who are not yet fluent in English by providing them with peer tutoring and mentorship. With the help of bilingual peers fluent in both English and Spanish, our goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can receive academic assistance while improving their English language skills. Sponsor - Sra. Garfias 

Cultural & International 

ASIAN-AMERICAN/PACIFIC ISLANDER (AAPI CLUB) - A social club with a touch of community service that is open to any and everyone who is interested in learning about and celebrating Asian culture and heritage. We aim to include all throughout our community. – Sponsor - Ms. Vang 

CHINESE CLUB – We are a group for students who want to learn about Chinese language and culture. We do fun things like calligraphy, Chinese food, traditional games and learn Chinese words in a relaxed way. Sponsor – Ms. Tan 

INTERNATIONAL CLUB – Explores customs and traditions from other cultures. Sponsors - Mrs. Rowsam, Sra. Garfias, and Mme. Bunn 

ROTC Teams & Activities 

COLOR GUARD - ROTC Cadets train and practice to present the colors and conduct flag honors. Also teach flag honors to local elementary and middle school students. Sponsor - Maj. Chandler

CYBERPATRIOT - ROTC - The National Youth Cyber Education Program created to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Sponsors - Maj. Chandler 

DRILL TEAM - ROTC Cadets train and practice for local drill competitions. Sponsor - Maj. Chandler 

MODEL ROCKETRY - ROTC Cadets learn about aerodynamics and then build and launch model rockets. Sponsor - Maj. Chandler 

ORIENTEERING - ROTC Cadets train and practice land navigation. Sponsor - Maj. Chandler

RAIDER TEAM - ROTC Cadets train and practice for local physical fitness competitions. Sponsor - Maj. Chandler

STEM & Environment 

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CLUB - This club provides an opportunity for students to take an active role in our environment. The club includes service projects and educational opportunities. Sponsors - Ms. Snyder, Mrs. Chavis 

WiSTEM Club - Women in Stem club which allows students to have the opportunity to learn about STEM-related areas. We want to give students the support they need to grow and succeed. Sponsor - Ms. Ross 

Faith & Empowerment 

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES - Student-led programs involving speakers, sharing time, and Christian outreach are offered to all interested students. Sponsors - Mrs. Estes & Ms. Corley 

TROJAN P.E.A.R.L.S. - A women empowerment club which pursues empowerment, academic achievement, responsibility, leadership, and service by uplifting young girls for person and professional development at Northwestern and the community. Sponsor - Mrs. Coleman 

Sports & Recreation 

PICKLEBALL CLUB - Members meet to learn, practice, and play Pickleball with other students and staff members. Sponsor -Dr. Venables 

PROM COMMITTEE - This committee is composed of all juniors who are interested in planning and organizing the prom. Sponsor - Mrs. Chavis
